Alexei Markov won awards at several international competitions, including the
Rimsky-Korsakov Young Opera Singer’s Competition (2004), Elena Obraztsova (2005) and Moniuszko (2007). Between 2001–2008, he was a soloist of the Academy of Young Singers at the Mariinsky Theatre and since 2008 – a soloist of the Mariinsky Theatre.
He has performed roles in operas by Mussorgsky, Tchaikovsky, Rimsky-Korsakov, Verdi, Puccini, Berlioz and Gounod. With the Mariinsky, he has performed at the Deutsche Oper Berlin, the Lincoln Center and Carnegie Hall, the Barbican Hall, the Kennedy Center, Suntory Hall, at festivals in Rotterdam, Mikkeli, Eilat and Baden-Baden. He has been a guest artist at the Metropolitan
Opera and theatrås in Frankfurt, Dresden, Graz, Zurich and Madrid as well as at the Salzburg Festival. Alexei Markov was the recipient of Russia’s National Th eatre Award «Golden Mask» for the role of Ivan Karamazov in the opera «Th e Brothers Karamazov» (2009).
