Dmitry Eremin
Cello
Biography
Dmitry Eremin was born in 1976 in Leningrad, in the family of musicians. He studied to play cello with I. Bogdanovich and À. Ponomarenko. During his study at the school of Saint-Petersburg Conservatorium he often won first prizes in different competitions and festivals for young musicians. He took an active part in charity concerts too, including the ones of the German human rights organization «Memorial».
In 1994 the young celloist finished the school and in 1999 he graduated from the Conservatorium (Professor A. Nikitin’s class). In 2002-2003 he underwent a study course at the Moscow Conservatorium as a chamber ensemblist with professor À. Rudin.
Dmitry Eremin is a first prize winner of the National celloists competition (1997, Voronezh), a winner of the Daniil Shafran’s award at the XI International Tchaikovsky Competition (1998, Moscow), a first prize winner in duett and trio of the Fourth International Competition named after Ì.V. Judina (2002, Saint-Petersburg). In 2011 he was awarded with the Saint-Petersurg Government Prize «For good achievements in music and performing art».
Since 1997 he was a concertmaster of a cello group of the Academic Symphony Orchestra of the Saint-Petersburg Academic Philharmonic named after D.D. Shostakovich. With this orchestra he performed as a soloist in concerts of Dvorak and Shostakovich, as well as in all Saint-Petersburg premieres of cello compositions by R. Schedrin. As a first cellist of the orchestra he worked with such conductors as Temirkanov, Svetlanov, Rozhdestvensky, Gergiev, Ì. Jansons, N. Jarvi.
Since 1999 Eremin teaches a cello class at Saint-Petersburg Conservatorium, as well as gives master-classes in the USA, Sweden, South Korea, Italy and Poland. He also records CDs. He was a member of the panel of judges of the 1st National Music Competition, as well as a jury of cello competitions in Chile and Brazil.
He is an active participant of master-classes of M. Rostropovich, D. Shafran, F. Helmerson, Ê. Georgian, D. Geringas. He performes in ensemble with Ì. Gantvarg, N. Àrzumanova, À. Rudin, «Àtrium» quartet, S. Dogadin, P. Popov, Î. Kondina, I. Lebedev, À. Ivanovich, I. Dzekzer, as well as with his wife, a pianist À. Richkova. He cooperates very efficiently with many contemporary Russian composers.
Being as «IYF artist» - a member of an international missionary educational and youth enlightening organization – he performs in many prestigious concert halls of the USA, South Korea, Australia and Thailand, countries of the South America as well as Malasia and Africa.
At the moment he is a director of the Saint-Petersburg celloists ensemble. Its performance at the festival in Germany (Schlezwig-Holstein) in 2006 was named the best concert of the year.
