Biography
Maria Fedotova is a third-generation flutist, a concert soloist and a teacher.
Since the age of 19, she has been a soloist with leading orchestras, performing under the direction of outstanding conductors, including Vladimir Fedoseyev, Valery Gergiev, Yuri Temirkanov, Teodor Currentzis, Vladimir Jurowski, Kent Nagano and others.
As a guest soloist, she has collaborated with the London Philharmonic Orchestra, the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra, the St. Petersburg Philharmonic, the chamber orchestra Kremerata Baltica with Gidon Kremer, the ensemble Opus Posth with Tatiana Grindenko, the contemporary music ensemble Reconsil, Wiener Concertverein, Vocalforum Graz, and many other ensembles. She has worked on a permanent basis with the Tchaikovsky Symphony Orchestra in Moscow and the Mariinsky Theatre in St. Petersburg, and has appeared as a guest soloist with the Rachmaninov Symphony Orchestra under Mikhail Pletnev.
Since 2012, she has been teaching at the St. Petersburg State Conservatory, where she was invited to become an assistant to Professor Alexandra Vavilina-Mravinskaya, and soon afterwards began to lead her own class. Among her students are prize winners of international competitions and soloists of leading orchestras, including the Mariinsky Theatre, the St. Petersburg Philharmonic, MusicAeterna, Utopia and others. Maria is a highly sought-after pedagogue and is frequently invited to give masterclasses. In addition to numerous Russian cities, she has taught in Japan, Lithuania, Portugal, Armenia and in Austria, including at the summer academy ISA.
Maria has also been active in historical performance practice and devotes great attention to contemporary music, which she considers an essential part of today’s musical world. Together with actor and writer Michael Dangl, Maria performs literary-musical programs. As a soloist, she has appeared at many prestigious festivals, including the Salzburg Festival, Bregenz, Gstaad, Lockenhaus, Europalia, Gmunden, Eisenstadt, the Liszt Festival in Raiding, the Styriarte Festival, and many others.
