Biography
Hans Ole Thers was educated in Copenhagen at the Royal Academy of Music. He received the French National Grant to study a year in Paris with Marie-Claire Alain and André Isoir 1984-85. His official debut in 1986 was tremendously well received by the public and by the press.
Hans Ole Thers started as a lecturer in 1986 and in 1991 was appointed associate professor at the Royal Academy of Music in Copenhagen, where he teaches solo repertoire, and liturgical organ playing, including improvisation. He is a most appreciated teacher also attracting many advanced organ players from outside the Academy.
Since 1985 he is titulaire organist of the well known, medieval Church of the Holy Spirit (Helligaandskirken), located in Denmark’s most famous street, the pedestrian street “Strøget” in the heart of Copenhagen, with the large symphonic-romantic Marcussen organ. The organ is played every day at noon, for locals and tourists. Hans Ole Thers is equally mastering the fine carillon of the church, consisting of 49 bells played every day from a keyboard in the top of the tower. Furthermore he is the leader of the prestigious church’s busy concert activities, which includes an International Organ Festival.
Throughout the year Hans Ole Thers plays a large number of solo recitals and participates in organ festivals in Denmark and in many foreign countries.
He has recorded the ten organ symphonies by Widor and several other CD’s with romantic and baroque organ music.
