Kim Gyehee
Biography
Gyehee Kim is an internationally acclaimed violinist, known for her extraordinary talent and numerous prestigious awards. She made history as the first Korean to win the instrumental category at the 17th Tchaikovsky International Competition, 2023. She has also earned the distinction of being the first Asian to win the violin category at the George Enescu Competition. Additionally, she has won the Andrea Postacchini International Violin Competition and the Munetsugu Angel International Violin Competition, receiving both the Audience Prize and Orchestra Special Prize. Notably, she was awarded a three-year loan of the 1697 Antonio Stradivarius “Rainville” by Nippon Violin of Japan. Kim's accolades include prizes at the Stuttgart, Isang Yun, Torún and Tchaikovsky International Competitions for Young Musicians, marking her as a prominent figure on the international stage.
In 2023, she performed at the Gala Concert of the International Tchaikovsky Competition under the baton of Valery Gergiev. She was subsequently invited by him to perform with the Mariinsky Orchestra at the Mariinsky Theater in St. Petersburg and also received invitations by esteemed musicians such as Yuri Bashmet and Denis Matsuev. Kim also recently performed with leading French conductor Marc Minkowski and the Chamber Orchestra of Les Musiciens du Louvre, as well as with the George Enescu Philharmonic, the Stuttgart Philharmonic, the Russian National Orchestra, the Russian Symphony, the Torun Symphony, and the Orchestra Filarmonica Marchigiana, the Central Aichi Symphony, the Pleven Philharmonic, iPalpiti Orchestra, and the Novosibirsk State Academic Theater Chamber Orchestra and many others.
Recently, she held a recital at the historic venue, Salle Gaveau in Paris, France. Her exceptional talent has been celebrated through various honors, including being named Music Journal's “2023 New Artist of the Year” in South Korea and receiving nomination for the prestigious “2024 Kumho Artist Series”, “2018 Rising Star Series” by the Kumho Asiana Cultural Foundation in 2018. She has been invited as a guest artist to prestigious events and festivals worldwide, including the George Enescu Festival, Kronberg Academy, Moscow Meets Friends at the Grand Kremlin Palace, Mozarteum International Summer Academy, <Sundays Live> at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, The Stars on Baikal and many others. Notably, in 2021, she was invited to perform as a soloist with the Chamber Orchestra of the Novosibirsk State Opera Orchestra, commemorating the 30th anniversary of diplomatic ties between the Republic of Korea and the Russian Federation.
