Biography
Organist and Choir Director, Jean Nouvel-Alaux is the titular organist of the historic Cavaillé-Coll organ at Notre-Dame de la Gare Church (Paris 13) as well as the Chapel Master and Choir Director for the same parish.
He began playing the organ at the age of 12 at the Rennes Conservatory in Damien Simon’s class and continued his training at the Toulouse Conservatory with Stéphane Bois, Jan Willem Jansen, and Michel Bouvard. At the conservatory, he also studied harpsichord, orchestral and choir conducting, singing, basso continuo, composition, analysis, music history, and improvisation. At 19, he had to stop his music studies for personal reasons and only resumed in 2019 at the age of 23.
In 2022, he received his organ performance prize with unanimous approval and honors in Christophe Mantoux’s class at the Conservatoire Supérieur de Paris Boulogne-Billancourt, as well as his Bachelor's degree in Musicology from La Sorbonne University. In September 2023, he won third prize and the audience prize at the Mikael Tariverdiev International Organ Competition. In 2024, he obtained his State Diploma as an organ teacher and will soon be teaching at a conservatory.
As a soloist, Jean Nouvel-Alaux has performed in Australia (Melbourne), the USA (NYC, Millbrook), France, and will play in Russia during the 2024-2025 season in prestigious venues such as the St. Petersburg Philharmonic.
