Sergey Filchenko
Biography
Sergei Filchenko, a violinist and violist, graduated from the St Petersburg Conservatory. He began to play the baroque violin under the guidance of M.Leonhardt and went on to collaborate with various ensembles of St.Petersburg. In 1990, he joined the ensemble “Musica Petropolitana”, and in 1993, as part of this ensemble, won First Prize at the International van Wassenaer Competition in Amsterdam. Sergei Filchenko has also been awarded honorary diplomas at international violin competitions in Bruges (1996) and Amsterdam (1997) as well as, in 1995, he received the special prize “For the best interpretation” at the International Pietro Antonio Locatelli Violin Competition in Amsterdam. In 1999, he joined the ensemble “Pleyel-Trio St Petersburg”.
He has taken part in concerts and recordings of more than 20 CDs with leading musicians of the world. The musician has conducted master classes in England, Italy, Germany and the United States and participated in numerous television and radio programs. Since 2003, Sergei Filchenko has been a concertmaster of the Pratum Integrum orchestra, which performs music of the 17th–19th centuries in an authentic manner and on actual instruments of that period. Since 2011, he has been a Visiting Professor at Harvard.
