Biography

People’s Artist of Russia, winner of the XI International Tchaikovsky Competition, Denis Matsuev graduated from the Moscow Conservatory, where he studied with A.Nasedkin and S.Dorensky.
He is now among the most sought-aft er pianists in the world. He has toured extensively throughout Russia and abroad, collaborated with some of the major orchestras and renowned musicians of our time – including Y.Temirkanov, L.Maazel, V.Gergiev, M.Jansons, M.Pletnev, V.Fedoseev, V.Spivakov, L.Slatkin, Z.Mehta, K.Mazur and Myung-Whun Chung. He regularly participates in major festivals – in Edinburgh, Baden-Baden, Schleswig-Holstein, Verbier, Ravinia and St. Petersburg. He is the organizer of the festival «Stars of Baikal» and the Artistic Director of the festival «Crescendo» and the festival in Annecy (France), President of the Foundation «New Names» and the Art Director of the Rachmaninov Foundation, as well as member of the President’s
Council of Culture and the Arts in Russia.
Denis Matsuev is a soloist of the Moscow Philharmonia, where since 2004, has his own concert series subscription. He has recorded with labels such as BMG, Sony Music and Mariinsky. He has been awarded many honors, including the State Prize of Russia and the Shostakovich prize.
