Biography
The musician graduated from the Moscow Conservatory (T.Nikolaeva and S.Dorensky).
He is the winner such competitions as the All-Union Competition (1990), II International Bach Competition (1988) and Tchaikovsky Competition (1994). His concert career began during his school years, and his fi rst solo recital in
Moscow (1986) was recorded and released by «Melody».
He has toured in more than 40 countries, participated in festivals in La Roque-d’Antheron, Verbier and the BBC Proms.
He has collaborated with the world’s leading orchestras and conductors such as E.Svetlanov, G.Rozhdestvensky, V.Gergiev, V.Fedoseev, M.Pletnev, V.Sinaysky, V.Ashkenazy, K.Mazur, K.Nagano, N.Jaervi, M.Janowski, Ch. Dutoit, R.Chailly and V.Jurowski. He has played in ensembles with V.Repin, V.Kniasev and M.Maisky.
His recordings (with Erato, Warner Classics, Onyx, Deutsche Grammophon and
Naive, with whom he signed an exclusive contract in 2011) have earned him the Diapason d’Or and Echo Klassik awards.
Nikolay Lugansky has performed regularly with Yuri Temirkanov and the St. Petersburg Philharmonic on foreign tours as well as in Russia.
Their first joint concert in the Grand Hall of the Philharmonia took place in 2010.
