Biography

Dramatic Soprano Svetlana Sozdateleva’s 2020/21 season sees her anticipated debut at the Metropolitan Opera in New York with the role of Renata in Prokofiev’s T he Fiery Angel* , and her return to London’s Royal Festival Hall with Brünnhilde in Die Walküre under the musical direction of V. Jurowski*. Future engagements include her debut at Staatstheater Stuttgart and Teatro San Carlo in Naples as Fata Morgana in Love for three Oranges. Sozdateleva’s 19/20 season was marked by her Opera Nacional de Chile debut
in the role of Abigaille Nabucco* , Renata in T he Fiery Angel at the Warsaw Teatr Wielki. At the Helikon Opera Moscow, where Sozdateleva is the leading soloist, she took on Katerina Izmailova in L ady Macbeth of Mtsensk , Domna Saburova in The Tsar’s Bride , and Madame Lidoine in Dialogues des Carmélites. Other recent engagements of note include Fata Morgana in L ove for three Oranges at the Komische Oper Berlin and debut at Teatro San Carlo in Naples*, Renata in T he Fiery Angel at the Deutsche Oper am Rhein in Düsseldorf and Katerina Izmailova in L ady Macbeth of Mtsensk at the Greek National Opera in Athens.
Sozdateleva’s international career began in 2006 with her triumphal debut as Renata in T he Fiery Angel by Prokofiev at La Monnaie in Brussels. Since then, Renata has become Sozdateleva’s signature role. She has performed it at the Bayerische Staatsoper in Munich, Komische Oper Berlin, Deutsche Oper am Rhein in Düsseldorf, and the Scottish Opera in Glasgow.
Other notable past engagements include Abigaille in Verdi’s Nabucco at the Mariinsky Theatre, Katerina Izmailova in L ady Macbeth of Mtsensk by Shostakovich at the Deutsche Oper Berlin and reprisals of the role at Den Norske Opera Oslo, Finnish National Opera Helsinki, and Stadttheater Klagenfurt, Tosca at Latvian National Opera.
Sozdateleva appeared at the Glyndebourne Festival as Lady Macbeth in Verdi’s Macbeth and Kostelnička in Janáček's Jenůfa. On the concert platform, Sozdateleva has collaborated with the London Philharmonic Orchestra under V. Jurowski where she sang Brünnhilde in Die Walküre and with the Russian National Orchestra, where she could be heard as Sieglinda in Die Walküre and in the Shostakovich’s S ymphony ¹ 14 as the
soprano soloist.
