Farukh Ruzimatov

Biography

Born in Tashkent on June 26, 1963, he graduated from the Vaganova Academy of Russian Ballet (Gennady Selyutsky’s class). In 1981, Ruzimatov joined the Mariinsky (Kirov) Theatre (in 1986 became a soloist). In 1990-1991, Ruzimatov performed as Principal Guest Artist with American Ballet Theatre. His professional awards include the Russia’s highest theatre award Golden Mask and the St Petersburg’s highest theatre award Golden Soffit, in 2000 he was awarded the title of the People's Artist of the Russian Federation.

In 2007-2009, Farukh Ruzimatov was of Artistic Director of the Mikhailovsky Ballet Company. Under his directorship there premiered seven new ballet productions: Giselle, Cipollino, Spartacus, Romeo and Juliet, The Moor’s Pavane, Le Corsiare, and Swan Lake. At his invitation some of Europe’s leading ballet teachers have taught master classes at the Mikhailovsky Theatre. In 2009, he took the post of the Artistic Advisor to the Mikhailovsky Ballet.
