Biography

Born in 1993. After completing his musical education in his home town of Istanbul at the Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University with Mehmet Sökmen, he studied at the Staatliche Hochschule für Musik und Darstellende Kunst Stuttgart under professor Marta Klimasara and at CNSMD Lyon under Jean Geoffroy.

As a percussionist and composer he has performed in Croatia, Czech Republic, France, Germany, Italy, Netherlands, Russia, Slovenia, Switzerland and Poland which includes playing in festivals such as Festival Musica Strasbourg, Venice Biennale and Donaueschingen Festival.

Emil Kuyumcuyan holds scholarships provided by the Yamaha Foundation Europe and Kunststiftung Baden-Württemberg, and also the Deutschland Stipendium.

He was awarded Third Prize at the International Percussion Competition Luxembourg with Talking Drums Trio (2012), First Prize at the Stockholm International Music Competition (2014) and First Prize at the Tromp Percussion Competition Eindhoven (2016).

Emil Kuyumcuyan is also a recipient of the DAAD Prize (2016) for the outstanding results.
