Biography

Jewgeni Schuk, born in 1960 in Moscow originates from a famous Moscow family of musicians, his mother being a solo-cellist with the state orchestra in Moscow and his father an internationally renowned violinist – winner of several international competitions.

From 1978 until 1983 he studied with the famous Russian violinist Igor Besrodny at the Tschaikowsky Conservatoire in Moscow. During this time, frequently performing, Schuk was member of Swjatoslav Richter’s Quintet, with which he gave many concerts in Russia and abroad.

While still studying, he became assistant of both his professor Igor Besrodny and Dimitri Schebalin and the Borodin Quartet.

With only 23 he was given the position of first violinist of the Moscow Philharmonic, which he has been filling for five years.

The door to an international career was opened for Jewgeni Schuk when Juri Bashmet, one of the most outstanding Russian musical figures, took him as concertmaster on to his newly-founded chamber orchestra Moscow Soloists.

This event was followed by a three-year-period of worldwide concert tours and music festivals, which established Schuk as an authority in his field.

In 1990 he was offered the position of first concertmaster at the Stuttgarter Staatstheater, in which he is still active.

Together with Robert Benz and the cellist Stephan Gerlinghaus he founded the TrioBamberg in February 1994.

Performing with Dietrich Fischer-Dieskau in Berlin, at the Rheingau Musikfestival, music festivals in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, Schleswig-Holstein, Ljubljana, Bergen (Norway), Cervantino, Mexico City he proved a masterly soloist’s virtuosity.

He also performed in Japan, China, France and other places.
