Balakirev Piano Trio

About group

Born in 2015 «Balakirev Trio» features three musicians who already achieved lots of successes on stages around the globe as well-known instrumentalists and soloists. Years of collaboration and friendship between them logically merge them into one ensemble in which they happy to play piano trio repertoire together and share their experience and love to chamber music with the audience. Russian-origin musicians now live in Germany and Holland since many years, but their close connections to the culture of their homeland make them very special ambassadors between Russian and Western European cultures. The repertoire choice of the «Balakirev Trio» bases on best selection of Russian Classical repertoire, including trios by Tchaikovsky, Arensky, Rachmaninov and Shostakovich as well as the major masterpieces written by Beethoven, Schubert, Brahms, Ravel and Mendelssohn.
The name of Mily Balakirev for the trio was taken not spontaneously. Less known in Europe, in Russia his name was widely honored in Russia. He was one of the founders of the professional «national» composer school in Russia. Together with Vladimir Stasov Balakirev in early 1860s Balakirev brought together the composers now known as The Five - the others were Alexander Borodin, César Cui, Modest Mussorgsky and Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov. Peter Tchaikovsky was in very close collaboration with group. Balakirev’s role in russian musical world hard to overrate. He also known as one of the biggest supporters of professional musical education, opened the Free School of Music, and organized cycles of the Orchestra concerts, raising money to support the School. In 1883 he was named the head of the St Petersburg Court Chapel.
