Biography

Christian von Blohn was born in 1963 in Homburg (Saar) and graduated fr om the Saarbrücken Music Academy in 1987 with a first-class degree in Church Music (choral and orchestral direction with Volker Hempfling and Dieter Loskant) and also with a degree in Music Education majoring in the organ. He also studied the piano with Kurt Schmitt and piano chamber music with Walter Blankenheim and Jean Micault, as well as the harpsichord with Martin Galling.

He continued his musical studies in Switzerland at the National Conservatory in Lausanne in the master class of André Luy, wh ere he was awarded the Premier Prix de Virtuosité;in 1991. Further studies with Daniel Chorzempa led him to the Music Academy of Basle, to the Mozarteum in Salzburg and to the “Royal School of Church Music” in the UK with Peter Hurford and Julian Smith.

In 1990, he founded the Collegium Vocale Blieskastel, with whom he regularly directs performances featuring various styles of church music.

Sinñe 1993, Christian von Blohn has been deanery music director for the diocese of Speyer and today musically supervises the two St. Ingbert parishes of St. Hildegard and St. Josef. He also directs the local department of the Episcopal Institute for Church Music.

After teaching at the Music Conservatories in Karlsruhe, Trossingen and Mannheim, he now teaches at the Saarbrücken Music Academy. A busy concert schedule takes him all over Europe and he can be heard on numerous CDs as well as radio and television broadcasts.
