Biography

Daniel Zaretsky graduated from the Leningrad Conservatoire as an organist (class of Professor Nina Ivanovna Oksentian) and as a pianist (class of Professor Eduard Bazanov) in addition to completing a post-graduate degree at the Kazan State Conservatoire where he studied under Professor Rubin Kabirovich Abdullin and studying at the Sibelius Academy in Helsinki (class of Professor Kari Jussila). Has taken part in master classes given by such outstanding Western European organists as Guy Bovet, Jean Guillou, Marie-Claire Alain, Harald Vogel, Ludger Lohmann, Piet Kee, Jon Laukvik and Sigmund Satmari among others.

Prize-winner at the All-Russian Open Competition of Organists (1991, 1>sup>st prize) and the International Competition of Organists in Germany as well as being a diploma recipient at international organ competitions in Italy and Finland.

Has performed in recital since 1986. Has appeared at the most prestigious concert venues of the former USSR. Frequently performs in countries throughout Europe and the USA, Israel, Australia and South America.
Has recorded seven CDs. Jury member at several prestigious international competitions in Russia, Poland, Germany, France, Spain, Italy, Luxembourg and Canada.

From 1997 to 2007 he was organist at the St Petersburg Academic Shostakovich Philharmonic. From 2002 to 2007 he was an assistant professor at the Nizhny Novgorod State Glinka Conservatoire (organ class). From 2006 he was a professor of the Department of Organ, Harpsichord and Carillon of the Faculty of Arts of the St Petersburg State University, from 2007 he was a senior lecturer and since 2011 he has been head of the Faculty of Organ and Harpsichord at the St Petersburg State Rimsky-Korsakov Conservatoire. Many of Daniel Zaretsky’s students have been prize-winners at international and all-Russian competitions.

The musician has been awarded the title of Honoured Artist of Russia.
