Biography
Graduated from the Vaganova Academy of Russian Ballet (class of Professor L.Safronova) in 1981. Upon graduation entered the Kirovsky (Mariinsky) Theatre, where she begun to work under renowned masters I.Kolpakova and O.Moiseeva. While working at the theatre, she performed leading parts in the ballets such as The Fountain of Bakhchisaray, Don Quixote, Pushkin, Sleeping Beauty, Giselle, Paquita, Swan Lake, Le Corsaire, Cinderella, Les Sylphides, La Vivandiere and others. As a leading soloist of the Mariinsky, she went on tour in the USA, Canada, Australia, Great Britain, France and other countries. In 1989, she became one of the first performers of George Balanchine’s choreography in Russia, having presented the leading part in his Scottish Symphony premiere performances. In 1990, by invitation of Peter Schaufuss, she became a soloist at the English National Ballet, where she performed title roles in productions such as Etudes by H.Lander, Swan Lake by V.Burmeister, Romeo and Juliette by B.Stivenson, Nutcracker and Coppelia by R.Hind and others. In 1991 she was awarded the Best Dancer Prize by the British Critics Association. In 1993, she became prima ballerina of the Bavarian State Ballet, where she mastered European ballet classics of the XX century. In recent years she has combined her activities as ballerina and choreographer. She has staged several well-known performances, such as Le Corsaire at the Tatar Musa Jalil State Academic Theatre of Opera and Ballet, Kazan (2005), Swan Lake at the Theatro Municipal in Rio de Janeiro (2007, awarded the Best Brazilian Ballet Production of the Year Prize), Sleeping Beauty at the Croatian National Theatre in Split (2010), Raymonda in Theatre Vanemuine in Tartu and others.
