Valeria STENKINA, soprano
Honoured Artist of Russia Prizewinner of International Vocal Competitions: Grand-Prix (Toulouse, France, 1990); 3rd Prize, Mozart Competition (Salzburg, Austria, 1991); 2nd Prize, Francisco Vinas Competition (Barcelona, Spain, 1991).
Born in Samara (Kuibyshev). Graduated with honors from the St Petersburg Conservatoire in 1992. Made her debut at the Mariinsky stage in 1996 as Salome (Salome) and joined the Mariinsky Theatre in 1997.

Upon invitation of M. Rostropovitch took part in Schostakovitch festival (St Petersburg, 1997 and Tokyo, 1998). Participated in Gergiev-festival in Rotterdam (1998), with a series of Seven romances after A. Blok Verses by Shostakovitch, accompanied by A. Slobodyanik, I. Grubert, S. Zagursky. Toured together with Mariinsky Theatre in Finlanf, Israel, Italy. In 1998 performed the part of Salome (Salome by R. Strauss) in its first ever performance at the New Israel Opera, conductor - V. Gergiev. Performed at the festival in Ovanlinna castle (Savonlinna, Finland, 1997) in Parsifal (Kundry), conductor - V. Gergiev, director - Tony Palmer (Britain), as well as the premiere performance of Mariinsky Theatre (ref.Opera magazine, Britain, July 1997). 1999, May - concerts of Bolshoi and Mariinsky Theatres soloists with St Petersburg Festival Chamber Orchestra cn. D. Ashkenazi (das Kurhous Wiesbaden). 1999, November - Zurab Sotkilava recital, duets from Otello, Il trovatore (Opera House, Riga). 1999, December - R. Strauss Four Last Songs, Jerusalem International Symphony Orchestra, cn. Uriel Segal (Israel) (Jerusalem Henry Crown Symphony Hall, Rishon Lezions, New Auditorium).
