Prize-winner at the International Chaliapin Opera Singers" Competition (2nd prize, 1989), Diploma-recipient at All-Union Glinka Vocalists" Competitions (1987–1989).
Born in 1955 in Maili-Suu, Kirghizia. Graduated from the vocals department of the conservatoire (Bishkek, Kirghizia).
Soloist with the Novosibirsk Theatre of Opera and Ballet from 1985–1986.
Soloist with the Frunze Maldybaev Theatre of Opera and Ballet from 1986–1991.
Soloist with the Leningrad Academic Musorgsky Maly Theatre of Opera and Ballet from 1991–1994.
Mariinsky Theatre soloist since 1994; made his debut as the Grand Inquisitor (Don Carlo). His repertoire includes over fifty roles.
