Olga BORODINA, mezzo-soprano People's Artist of Russia (2002).

Olga Borodina is a first prize gold medal winner of the Rosa Ponselle Vocal Competition, and also won the Barcelona competition in 1989. As a leading member of the Mariinsky Theatre she performs extensively throughout Europe, the United States, Japan and China. Olga Borodina performs equally frequent recitals in the world?s most famous concert halls. Olga Borodina established herself very quickly as one of today's most exciting mezzo-sopranos. She made her highly acclaimed Covent Garden debut in London, sharing the stage with Placido Domingo in Samson et Dalila. In 1995 she gave her debut in San Francisco in La cenerentola and has been a frequent guest artist ever since. In 1998, Olga Borodina made her Metropolitan Opera debut in Boris Godunov. Since then, she has frequently returned to the Metropolitan Opera, including the opening night of the 1998/99 season of Samson et Dalila with Placido Domingo and Maestro Levine, performances of Aida, The Queen of Spades and Carmen. Other engagements in Europe included Carmen with the London Symphony Orchestra and Sir Colin Davis in London, Aida at the Vienna State Opera, Eboli at the Opera de Bastille as well as the Salzburg Festival, the Principessa in Adriana Lecouvreur at La Scala and Aida at the Royal Opera House in London. Olga Borodina's releases on the Philips Classics label include Khovanshchina, The Queen of Spades, Prince Igor, La forza del destino, The Tsar's Bride, Boris Godunov, La Mort de Cleopatre and Verdi's Requiem all with the Mariinsky under Valery Gergiev. Other releases include Songs of Desire, with Larissa Gergieva, Romeo and Juliet (with VPO under Sir Colin Davis), Bolero, a Spanish recital, accompanied by Semjon Skigin, an album of Opera Arias with the Welsh National Opera Orchestra, Arias and Duets with Dmitry Khvorostovsky, conducted by Patrick Summers and Carlo Rizzi and Verdi's Don Carlos with Sir Bernard Haitink. Her solo recital recordings on Philips are Tchaikovsky Songs, Songs of Desire, Bolero, and Opera Arias.
