Scholarly opinion: how does music influence the development of cognitive abilities?
Children need to be taught love for music, even despite reluctance. This is an opinion of Tatiana Chernigovskaya, one of the most authoritative figures in neuroscience.
Doctor of Biological Sciences, professor at the St. Petersburg State University believes that if the human brain is supposedly called a muscle, music will be the best dumb-bell for it. This thought sounds especially convincing from the stage of the St. Petersburg Philharmonic. The reporter Artyom Sharipov bought into this idea well.
-They play well together.
They play just like experienced musicians. Tatiana Chernigovskaya compares brain activity to jazz improvisation. Brain neurons act in a similar manner, impromptu and chaotically when they try to solve a problem. That is a wonderful compliment for a human. There is John Coltrane and Miles Davis playing in each one of us.
-Jazz!
One must if not play, but listen to Jazz. Complex music is good for a man.
Tatiana Chernigovskaya, Doctor of Biological Science:
“This pertains to complex music, not classic. That is not the point, it shouldn’t be gentle music. It is the same with reading, you can read a magazine, or you can read Schopenhauer.”
To listen to complex music is one thing. Another thing is to be able to grasp and unpack the laws and rules of music. It will only benefit you. As far as kids are concerned, parents have to force them to study music according to Tatiana Vladimirovna. Perhaps, a kid won’t become a man of genius and draw halls and stadiums, but at least music will perfect the brain. That is to say, music skills will unnoticeably improve your writing.
Tatiana Chernigovskaya, Doctor of Biological Science:
“A person that studies music will be bound to pay attention to little things, the duration etc, it is a subtle structure. It will appear in writing practice.”
There is much more benefit from music, than harm. The brain, in particular, answers the main question: which music is considered good – complex music.
